London Guard

2-10 April 2011: LONDON

Private Label London Guard

It is with great delight that I invite you to join us for a trip that was two decades in the making: Private Label- LONDON, a 20th Anniversary Week, 2-10 April 2011.  This is a weeklong celebration of both Private Label’s 20th anniversary and our 34th year of traveling to England. We will have such fun!

London

Our hotel, the four-star Washington Mayfair, on Curzon Street, is just a stone’s-throw from the pubs and restaurants of Shepherds Market.  Jump in a taxi, on a bus, or on the tube, and you’ll be in the heart of the West End in minutes.  Or walk to the stores of Bond and Regent Streets in 20 minutes. And the Queen’s at home just 15 minutes away.  I’m sure she’d love to have you pop ‘round – at least to visit the shop. London’s a city with too much to see and too much to do, but we will make sure that you have YOUR kind of week.

So, please, do say yes.  Come and share this very special week with us.  And you can add either the pre-trip to Manchester, the post-trip to Bath or both…but don’t deprive us of the pleasure of your company.

“Why London? Why so often?” I think it’s because London is like a second home that never fails to welcome. Never fails to surprise and excite. Once one gets past the Tower, Buckingham Palace, and the obligatory,  traditional tourist stops there is always a new delight to discover, a new neighborhood to  explore.

And it’s the little things: a day spent book shopping, an hour-or-so prowling the food halls (we prefer Fortnum's), smashing into someone famous on the Kings Road, an overheard conversation in our favorite pub, the Grenadier (“As I said to Her Majesty the other day...”), or being welcomed back with open arms at our favorite restaurant, YMing in Soho.

Since 1977 we've traversed London by tube, taxi, bus; but mainly and most rewardingly, by foot. In 1989 I was amazed to discover that after four days in London I had never referred to my-always-present map; one of my   proudest moments.

So when you join us in April you will have the benefit of our 30-plus years of London. We can guide and suggest the best way to take advantage of the world's most exciting and eclectic city. But rest assured, we will most likely push you out of the hotel’s front door of a morning and let you follow your nose. If you get lost, just throw your arm in the air and yell "taxi". But getting lost in London is the way to find YOUR London.

As Dr Johnson said, and I concur, "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."

Since 1991 we’ve visited cities and places we love with fellow travellers who understand what travel is all about: new horizons, new experiences, new friends. These tours are designed to allow us to give you a perfect travel experience: to insure there is no trauma or drama, or Strum und Drang.

Eight nights in London will give you the time to explore the city in depth, take a few days trips to the country, or even a Chunnel day excursion to Paris.

We begin with an optional three night stay in Manchester, the UK’s second city, allowing us a visit to the Imperial War Museum North.

After London we go onto an optional four night stay in Bath, a city we’ve loved since 1977. No other city in the UK captures the spirit of Georgian   England like this honey-hued World Heritage city. And Bath has some of the best shopping and eating in the whole of the UK.

Welcome to The Washington Mayfair Hotel, a distinguished hotel with a history dating back to 1913. Renovation, design touches and modernization have made this hotel a favorite for the many visitors who call this home away from home. Check into The Washington Mayfair Hotel and you will be staying in one of London’s finest locations, Curzon Street in the heart of Mayfair.

This 4 star deluxe hotel is superbly placed in the Capital’s premier cultural centre. Park Lane, Piccadilly, Buckingham Palace, Bond Street, Green Park and Hyde Park are nearby. Shepherds Market, packed with restaurants and pubs, is but steps away. Green Park Tube stop is a 10 minute stroll.

Air-conditioned guest rooms, most fresh from renovations, enjoy boutique rhythms, with monochromatic fabrics, built-in headboards, clean-lined modern furnishings and good lighting. Trendy lighting fixtures and seating are common to all, as are flat-screen TVs and minibars, safes, trouser presses, irons, ironing boards and comfortable beds with cushioned headrests on burl headboards.

Baths have heated marble floors, marble counters, power showers, heated towel rails and hair dryers. Classic rooms are the smallest; Executives are large with king beds. Robes and slippers add a touch of luxury.
