50 Years of Berlin

Herr Kelley's Golden Jubilee
16-21 October 2010
Falling in Love Again ...
... so goes the old Marlene Dietrich song, and each time we're in Berlin, we fall in love again with this exciting city. The Wall may have fallen twenty years ago, but Herr Kelley’s first visit was before the Wall existed. Come along and benefit from his years of schlepping the streets of Berlin. So, why Berlin?
Berlin is a city that has reinvented itself repeatedly, from a small commercial center in the Middle Ages, through all that the 19th and 20th Centuries could throw at it, to Europe's newest and most vibrant capital city. Berlin's history has cast a long shadow over its future. But the Berliners have reclaimed their capital, now it’s your turn to do the same. Dine with us at Käfer Dachgarten atop the Reichstag, brilliantly re-thought by renown architect Sir Norman Foster. Standing at the zenith of the Reichstag dome, overlooking the heart of the city, you will, like us, realize that good did win over evil.
Berlin is the home of more culture than almost any city in the world. Great art, symphony orchestras, operas, museums and outrageous cutting-edge architecture are there to be enjoyed. The Egyptian Museum in the Altes Museum on Museum Island displays one of the few exhibits that actually takes our breath way - the bust of Nefertiti, world renowned and rightly so. The restored New Synagogue and the Jewish History Museum are the most outward signs of a reestablished and reinvigorated Jewish community. Since German reunification, Berlin has reinvented, rebuilt, and revitalized not only the fabric of the city, but its spirit as well. And don't forget great shopping, great restaurants, great theatre...

Since 1991 we’ve visited cities and places we love with fellow travellers who understand what travel is all about: new horizons, new experiences, new friends. These tours are designed to allow us to give you a perfect travel experience: to insure there is no trauma or drama, or Strum und Drang.

We've stayed at many hotels in Berlin over the years, but we always return to the Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin, “the Kempi”. The staff is terrific, the breakfasts sumptuous and their restaurants appealing. The lobby bar has perhaps the best eaves-dropping we've ever enjoyed.
Its location on the Ku’damn makes for just a short jaunt to the many restaurants and shops around Savignyplatz. The U and S-Bahns are nearby and the 100 bus to Mitte and Museum Island is a 10 minute walk away. We love this part of Berlin and, for us, it’s the only place to stay. There are certainly many more choices in the city, but nothing says BERLIN like the Kempi.
We look forward to meeting you in the lounge at the end of an enchantment filled day.
This wonderful five-night stay in Berlin is the perfect starting or ending point of a longer European visit. We are starting in Monte Carlo, cruising with Silversea to Rome, flying to Bucharest, Romania and then Sofia, Bulgaria. You can join us for any or all of these, or start or end in any European city, e.g. Prague, Warsaw, Paris, Budapest, just to name a few.
